Blue Fish Festival

June 23rd - 24th 2023.

Blue Fish Festival - takes place every year in June. Apart from good vibes and live music, you can enjoy a delicious 'pijat' (meal) starring fresh fish, Kali's centuries-old trademark. The festival is an invitation to community celebration of exceptionally healthy small pelagic fish, popularly called 'blue fish', which is, apart from tuna, often overlooked and disregarded. Renowned Croatian chefs are invited to show their creativity and skill in preparing blue fish – sardine, anchovy and tuna, proving them to be delicacies that will leave you wanting for more.

Cultural Heritage of Kali

If you prefer getting to know a place via history and art, you can start by discovering the centuries-old sacral tradition of Kali. After visiting the local parish church of St. Lawrence, you could take a walk to St. Pelegrin Chapel, situated on a small hill in the higher reaches of the village. If you’re interested in time travel, you could climb up to Orjak hill, which hides the remains of an Iron Age hill-fort. Glagolitic script – the ancient alphabet that was used in Kali for centuries, is alive even today at special occasions in religious Catholic services. The streets of Kali resound with an unusual dialect, so don’t be surprised if you hear the ancient Kali speech still proudly spoken by adults and children alike.

Natural Heritage of Kali

Experience the natural heritage of Kali by swimming in the pristine sea, going for a seaside stroll or hiking the mildly hilly inlands parceled out by traditional dry-stone walls (‘suhozid’), nested within the picturesque Mediterranean landscape. Visit Natural Heritage sites or climb the hills of St. Pelegrin, Veli vrh and Orjak...
